Funeral services for Doris Marie Carter, age 58, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2000, in Robertson Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with Rev. Lawrence Thompson, Pastor of the First united Pentecostal Church in Shamrock, officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2000, in Baptist Ford Cemetery in Greenland, Arkansas, under the direction of Moores Chapel Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc. of Clarendon.
Mrs. Carter died Tuesday, October 17, 2000, in Clarendon. She was born December 28, 1941 in Amarillo. She was a resident of Farmington, Arkansas, for six years before moving to Clarendon two months ago. She married Jesse Kerr Carter on August 31, 1956, at Amarillo. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1994. She had worked as a retail clerk for several years before her retirement. She was a homemaker and a member of the Northeast United Pentecostal Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Kay Carter Morgans of Athens, Ohio, and Beverly Denise Carter Burrow of Clarendon; three sons, Michael Carter of Erick, Oklahoma, John Mark Carter of Uvalde, Texas, and Harlan Wayne Carter of Dalhart; her mother, Ruby E. Pope of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two sisters, Geraldine Baughman of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Shirley Fern Crossan of Garland; two brothers, J.N. Pope of Amarillo and Ralph Pope of Caushata, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
