Memorial services for Homer Morrison “Flip” Breedlove, age 91, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. James Ivey Edwards, Pastor, officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Memorial Park Crematory in Amarillo. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Breedlove died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Clarendon. He was born April 18, 1909, in Smithville, Texas. He lettered in football at Texas A&M University in 1931, 1932, and 1933. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1934 and moved from College Station to Clarendon in 1935. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He married Dorothy Lois Phelps on January 21, 1947, at Clarendon. He served as Donley County Agent for 31 years and then was associated with the Farmers State Bank and with Southwest Life Insurance Company for several years before his retirement. He had served several terms as Mayor of Clarendon and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon.
He was preceded in death by a son, “Little Flip,” and a brother, Robert L. Breedlove.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Breedlove of Clarendon; two sons, H. Mack Breedlove and wife, Jeanette, of Austin and Mike McCleskey and wife, Judy, of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren, Mark Breedlove, Lisa Davis, and Brandon McCleskey; and a great grandchild, Dallas Davis.
In memory of his commitment and love of Texas A&M University, a memorial scholarship will be established.
