Funeral services for Glen Darwin Sanders, age 67, of Hondo were held at 2:00 p.m. on March 5, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Spur with the Rev. Kermit Sorreles and Doug Foshee officiating. Burial was held in Afton Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.
Mr. Sanders was born June 27, 1933, in Briscoe County and graduated from Clarendon High School in 1950. He married Shirlene Carol Durham on July 21, 1954, in Clarendon. He served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. He received his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State College in 1957 and his master’s from there in 1966. He was a school administrator for 44 years at various schools including Roaring Springs, Miami, Patton Springs, and Loraine before retiring in 1992. He was then employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from 1992 to 1999. He had lived in Hondo for the last nine years, where he was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Phillip, of Cleveland; two daughters, Carolyn Hale of Sweeny and Sandy Vickery of Afton; a brother, Arbry, of Arlington; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Ronald McDonald House or the Afton Cemetery.
