Gladys Noble Seago

Gladys Noble Seago, age 92, of Waco, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, in her home. Graveside services were held Saturday, November 10, at 10 a.m. in Clarendon at Citizens Cemetery with Rev. Gene Moore, her beloved son-in-law, officiating. 

Gladys was born September 5, 1909, in San Augustine, Texas, to Isaac and Susan Francis Noble.  She received her BA and MA degrees from West Texas State University.  Gladys married Nelson Seago in 1933, and they were active members of the Lelia Lake community for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Nelson; her son, Rodney Nelson; four brothers; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Moore of Waco and Sue Payne of Pleasanton, Texas; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Lacy Noble of Clarendon; and many nieces and nephews.

Gladys spent her life serving others. She taught in Texas public schools for 34 years and in Colorado schools for six years. She and Nelson were active members in Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron and Patron in the Clarendon chapter.  Just recently she received her 50-year pin.

Gladys lived her life for others and was the truest friend one could have.  When health kept her from doing for others, she made sure her daughters carried on her mission.

Her roots in Texas history date back to the early days of the Republic of Texas.  The four unchanging tenets of Gladys were, “I love my God, I’m a Texan, I’m a Methodist, and I’m a Democrat.”  However, in the last presidential election she accompanied her daughters to the Republican headquarters.  As she was about to cast her vote she said, “I thought I was a Democrat,” but her Texas spirit superceded party lines as she voted for her fellow Texan, George Bush.
