Funeral services for Alvin James Hicks, age 87, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2002, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Truman Ledbetter, Pastor, officiating. Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Hicks died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, in Clarendon. He was born August 28, 1914, in Oklahoma and was a resident of Bonham before moving to Clarendon in 1930. He married Minni Belle Spurgeon on July 27, 1935, at Clarendon. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1997. He later married Billie Ashcraft. He had worked for Gilvin & Terrell in road construction for 31 years before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Mac Hicks of Amarillo and Rodney Hicks of Palestine, Texas; his wife, Billie Hicks of Clarendon; one step-daughter, Fern Watts of Clarendon; one brother, Olace Hicks of Clarendon; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Casket bearers include Mike Word, Bob Trout, Darrell Leffew, Jeff Walker, Jimmy Floyd, and Montye Smith. Honorary bearers were First Baptist Church Deacons.
The family requests that memorials be to the Downtown Ministry Center at First Baptist Church in Clarendon or BSA Hospice in Amarillo.
