Funeral services for Billy R. Mayo, age 71, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2002, in Robertson Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with Richard Dickerson of Amarillo, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Mayo died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in Amarillo. He was born May 29, 1930, in Clarendon, where he lived until moving to Amarillo in 1954. He was a barber in Clarendon for three years and in Amarillo for 27 years before retiring. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1952 until 1954. He served in the 584th Medical Company and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge 1239. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Survivors include one brother, G.T. Mayo and his wife Lou of Amarillo; a niece, Melinda Gunn of Collierville, Tennessee; a nephew, Joel Mayo of Littleton, Colorado; two great nieces, Caitlin Gunn and Abby Mayo; two great nephews, Corey Gunn and Jake Mayo; and two aunts, Ruth Hutson of Clarendon and Bell McClenney of Amarillo.
The family requests that memorials be to Citizens Cemetery Association, PO Box 1005, Clarendon, TX 79226-1005.
