Graveside services for Gertrude Lee Hulsey Smith Carter, age 86, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2002, in Citizens Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., in Clarendon.
Mrs. Carter died Tuesday, October 15, 2002, in Clarendon. She was born in Yeager, Oklahoma, to Mack and Jettie Hulsey. She married Ed Smith in 1941 at Anadarko, Oklahoma, and they moved to Clarendon shortly after their marriage. They worked for the Ross Darby Diary and for Boke Bugbee. They also lived in the Groom area where she worked for the Golden Spread Grill. Mr. Smith died in 1974 and she moved to Nevado for a time. She then lived in Lefors and Clarendon again before moving to Jacksboro where she met and married Glen Carter. He died in 1986.
Proceeded in death by her parents; one sister, Nora Jewel Hulsey Ledbetter; and three brothers, Lester Edward Hulsey, Roy Virgil Hulsey, and Carl C. Hulsey.
Survivors include one niece, Linda Louise Anderson of Oakly, Idaho; a nephew, Edward Wayne Ledbetter of Clarendon; a brother-in-law, Ed Richard Ledbetter of Clarendon; a sister-in-law, Vereda Hulsey of White Deer; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
