Services for Opal Kae Maxey were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Robertson Chapel of Memories with Rev. Rob Seale, Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Maxey was born January 9, 1924, in Childress and had been a resident of Clarendon most of her life before moving to Amarillo 4 years ago. After the death of her first husband Forrest J. Helton, she married Malcolm Warren Maxey on February 28, 1949; and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1987.
She had worked as a manager at Allsups Convenience Stores for several years prior to her retirement. She most enjoyed dancing, being with her family members, and attending family reunions.
Mrs. Maxey was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Sutton and Mary Wells; and a brother, Bobby Hudson.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Roulett of Kileen. Maxine Wleczyk of Baytown, Pam Williams of Brady, and Ruby Dethrage of Buena Vista, Colorado; six sons, Phillip M. Helton of Amarillo, Bobby D. Helton of Hugoton, Kansas, Jasper Maxey of Dalhart, Gary Maxey of Dalhart, Gary Maxey of Amarillo, Warren Maxey of Canyon, Johnny Helton of Albertville, Alabama; two sisters, Jane Stevens of Clarendon, and Lola Sexton of Amarillo; 33 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Phillip Helton, Monte Helton, Brandon Helton, Byron Helton, T.J. Maxey, Chad Maxey, and Zachariah Maxey.
