Walter F. Frey

Walter F. Frey, 91, of Garland, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003, Funeral services were held in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Garland on Thursday, October 9, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jack Schmidt officiating.  Graveside services were held at Citizens Cemetery on October 10, 2003, at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Frey was born December 8, 1911, in Stephenville, Texas.  He graduated from John Tarleton College and Texas A&M.  He also had a MSE from the University of Michigan.  Mr. and Mrs. Frey moved to Garland in 1977 after he retired from the Texas Highway Department in 1976.  He had also worked for several years for a consulting engineering firm with Turnpike Engineers on design and supervision of construction of the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike.  During WW II, he served as a staff officer in HQ Western Task Force and HQ Seventh Army in North Africa, Sicily, and France.  At the end of the war, he was a Lt. Col. and later made Colonel in the Army Reserve.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garland, where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his helpmate of 57 years, Margaret.

Survivors include one son, John L. Frey; one daughter, Margaret F. Lindsey; a brother, Joe B. Frey; and six grandchildren.
