Mrs. Katie Lee Butler Haney, age 99, died on Saturday, January 10, 2003, at the Gillmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Mississippi, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Haney was born March 1, 1904, in Royce City, Texas, to W.O. and Maggie Butler. She married C. Bailey Haney on June 4, 1949, in Pampa. He died March 6, 1979. She had been a resident of Wren since 1988. She was a retired schoolteacher, teaching in Collingsworth, Carson, and Gray Counties in Texas. Most of that time, she was with the Pampa School System. She was a member of the Pampa United Methodist Church and an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Tranquil United Methodist Church in Wren.
Services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2004, at Tranquil United Methodist Church with Rev. Hugh Griffith and Rev. Andrea Johnson officiating. Burial was held in Tranquil Cemetery in Wren, Mississippi, under the direction of E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Gene, Marshall, Mach, Erskin, and Oscar Butler; three sisters, Edna Osborn, Bessie Butler, and Nell Butler.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley Coleman Haney and his wife Helen of Vernon, Texas; and Marvin York Haney and his wife Reba of Wren, Mississippi; one daughter, Etta Frances Roman of Houston, Texas; one sister, Virginia Reese and her husband Cecil of Harbor City, California; seven grandchildren; Bailey Haney, Bruce Haney, Linda Griffith, Suzzanne Haney, Catherine Epps, Carolin Leech, and John Roman; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Bailey Haney, Bruce Haney, Jonny Haney, Todd Glenn, and Gregory Glenn.
