Hedley High School competed on Friday at the UIL Regional Academic Meet and qualified a large number of students for the UIL State Academics Meet.
The Current Issues and Events team of Ben Shaw, Ashleah Martin, Kyra Stevens, and Katie Gregory won first place. This is the third year in a row that a Current Issues student will compete at state and the second time in three years for Hedley to capture the regional team championship. Ben Shaw placed fifth individually in the contest.
The Science Team of Treva Rowland, Lacey Wallendorff, Stephen Howard, and Travis Hrbacek won the team championship in their event. Rowland placed second overall and first in chemistry. Wallendorff placed fourth overall.
Also placing at the meet were Stephen Howard, 6th in Number Sense and 4th in Mathematics; and Treva Roland, 5th in Calculator Applications.
Hedley academic sponsors are encouraged and excited about their programs since this will be the largest group the school has ever taken to the state meet. It is also the seventh straight year a Hedley student has qualified for the state contest.
The state competition will be held May 7-8 in Austin.
