Funeral services for Athlyn Orene Boomer were held at 10 a.m. on October 23, 2004, at the First Christian Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma, with Pastor Terry Longan officiating. Interment was held at 4 p.m. on October 23, 2004, at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo under the direction of Good Samaritan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boomer died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck. She was born August 22, 1907, to Walter W. and Minnie Rae “Beverly” Taylor in Clarendon. She attended college at Clarendon College, CIA in Denton, and Sul Ross University in Alpine and received her teaching certificate. On August 26, 1932, Athlyn married Bert Martin Boomer in Clarendon and lived in Groom, where she taught school. They then moved to Amarillo before making their home in Hereford. In 1978, a year after the death of her husband, she moved to Shattuck. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She taught Sunday school earlier at the First United Methodist Church in Hereford.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Vivian Blackwell.
Survivors include her son, Lynn and his wife Kay Boomer of Shattuck; her daughter, Margaret Jo and her husband Robert Oliver of Springer, Oklahoma; two sisters, Julia Catherine Murphy of Amarillo and Dorothy Jo Gibson of Austin; a sister-in-law, Scotty Boomer of Claude; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cookson Hills Christian Children’s Home in Kansas, Okla.
