Edgar Mae Mongole, 100, of Clarendon, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Hansford Manor in Spearman, Texas.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with the Rev. Don McDonald of First Presbyterian Church of Canyon officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Miss Mongole was born February 6, 1904, in White Deer to John and Maggie Mongole, early pioneers of the Texas Panhandle, who farmed near White Deer but later moved to Clarendon for their daughters to attend public schools. After graduation from high school, Edgar Mae attended several colleges and universities in Texas and elsewhere, including Peabody University in Tennessee. She was a graduate of Texas Tech. She was a resident of Clarendon most of her life, having taught in Clarendon schools 43 years.
Edgar Mae and her sister moved to Palo Duro Retirement Village in Canyon in 1985, where they had many friends. She was always concerned for others, especially children.
Survivors include her sister, Mabel, of Hansford Manor in Spearman; a number of cousins; and special caregivers, Lupe and Laurie Echevarria.
The family suggests memorials be to the Children’s Home, 3400 S. Bowie St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
