Funeral services for Peggy Joe Mullins Watt, age 67, were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2005, in the First United Methodist Church in Hedley with Sharon Alexander of Memphis, officiating. Order of the Eastern Star rites will also be conducted. Cremation followed on Monday. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Watt died Friday, February 25, 2005, in Amarillo. She was born September 26, 1937, in Donley County near Hedley. She lived in the Hedley area most of her life. She married Fred Akers Watt in July 1969 at Hedley.
She was a homemaker and had a degree in journalism. She had worked as a journalist and as a Certified Nurse Aide. Her weekly column about life in Hedley, “Watt’s Happening,” was a longtime feature in The Clarendon Press and The Clarendon Enterprise.
She was a member of the Childress Order of the Eastern Star, the Clarendon Rebekah Lodge, and the Daughters of the Nile. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hedley.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Su-San Couch and Lori Guerra, both of Memphis; four sons, Leon Couch, Keith Watt, and Guy Watt, all of Hedley, and Thunder Denton of Houston; two brothers, Leonard Mullins of Fritch and William Mullins of Springfield, Missouri; and ten grandchildren.
