Ray Meade Morris, age 93, of Groom died Saturday, March 12, 2005. Cremation was held on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors. No services are planned.
Mr. Morris was born September 30, 1911, in Pratt, Kan. He had been a resident of Groom for the past five years. He had been a high-line worker as well as a rodeo cowboy, cattle hauler, and ranch owner in Imperial Valley, Calif. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve Painter; by two brothers, Lee Morris and Claude Morris; and by one sister, Velma Childs.
Survivors include one daughter, Nellie M. Painter and husband Burl E. Painter of Groom; one sister, Violet Tubbs of Monterrey, Calif.; three grandchildren, Billy Ray Painter, Larry Painter, and Cheryl Ann Cervantes; two step grandchildren, Tony Edward Painter and Johnny Richard Painter; nine great grandchildren, Robby Wayne and Kimberly Cervantes, Randal and Matt Painter, Josh and Justin Painter, Lacrisha Shimp, Elizabeth Painter, and Nicky Ray Painter; two step great grandchildren, Brady and Christy Painter; and by six great great grandchildren, Zachary Shimp, Alora and Chazz Painter, Brittenie, Dakoda, and Tristen Painter.
