Funeral services for C.I. “Peck” Pettit, age 81, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005, in the Community Fellowship Church with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor, officiating. Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon with Masonic Graveside rites by Clarendon Lodge #700.
Mr. Pettit died Thursday, June 23, 2005, in Howardwick. He was born November 23, 1923, in Babs Switch, Oklahoma, and was an Amarillo resident for 32 years before moving to Howardwick in 1981. He married Margaret Ann Carlson on April 23, 1949, in Round Rock, Texas. He retired from Western Electric/ATT as an installer after 35 years. He was an US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, where he flew a B-17 Bomber. He was Past Master of Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700, Past Worthy Patron of Clarendon Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 6, a retired Howardwick Volunteer Firefighter, and served for six years on the Howardwick City Council. He was a member of the Howardwick Friendship Club and a telephone company pioneer member. He was a member of the Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Winnie Nola Walker Pettit in 1934 and his father Levi Edward Pettit in 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Howardwick; one son, Larry Pettit of Nashville, Tennessee; three brothers, Rev. Max Pettit and wife Dorothy of El Paso, Glenn Pettit of Lubbock, and Bill Pettit and wife Betty of Santa Fe, Texas; three grandchildren, Larinda Brown of Clarendon, Tim Pettit of Tyler, and Marteka Pettit of Clovis, New Mexico; and three great grandchildren, Audrey Jones, Hadley Jones, and Shaydee Brown, all of Clarendon.
Casket bearers were all members of the Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700.
The family requests that memorials be to Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon.
