Funeral services for Imogene Merle Bell Bain, age 86, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Robertson Chapel of Memories with Rev. Truman Ledbetter officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Mrs. Bain died Monday, May 23, 2005, in San Antonio. She was born October 25, 1918, in Estelline to Shelby Coffee Bell and Willie Elizabeth Boles Bell. She was raised in Clarendon where she met her future husband, John Elbert Bain, while she was working at Parkers Drug Store. At the time, he was enlisted in the US Navy, stationed at sea aboard the USS Essex. They were married in Clarendon on August 5, 1949. They moved to California and in 1976 from California to Sunray where she lived until 2004. The last five years, she lived with her daughter in San Antonio. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an operator for the telephone company in Clarendon as well as a secretary at the Huntington Park Baptist Church in California. She also served as a WAC in the US Army during World War II. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sunray.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by five sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Aguilar of San Antonio; and four grandchildren, Kathryn, Christopher, Kimberly, and John Michael.
Casket bearers were family members.
