Funeral services for James William “Jake” Driskill, age 91, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, in the First Baptist Church in Claude with Rev. Delbert Serratt of Amarillo and Rev. Jess Little, Pastor, officiating. Burial was held in Claude Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Driskill died Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Anson. He was born February 17, 1914, in Howe, Texas, and was an Armstrong County resident since 1947. He married Myrtice Elyda Anderson on August 9, 1941, at Claude. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He had been a farmer for most of his life and also was a heavy equipment operator for Armstrong County for several years before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for several years and had been a Deacon for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Gentry Driskill; his wife, on February 20, 1984; and by three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Campbell and husband Danny of Anson; two sisters, Margie Davis of Granbury and Elsie Nell Dansbee of Early, Texas; one brother, Paul Driskill of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren, Jim Campbell of Abilene, Danella Wheeler of Snyder, and Sarah Bell of Anson; six great grandsons; and one great granddaughter.
