Funeral services for Robert Ray Pittman, age 81, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. James Ivy Edwards, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Colorado City, Texas, and Chaplain Chad Horton of Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in Amarillo, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Pittman died Friday, June 17, 2005, near Clarendon. He was born February 27, 1924, in Chicota, Texas, to Alvin and Alice McEwin Pittman. He moved with his family to Donley County in 1925. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He married LaRue Shadle on June 30, 1946, in Clarendon. He retired from ASARCO in 1975 after working there for 29 years. After his retirement, he developed Tascosa Acres and Chaparral Acres in Amarillo. He then returned to farming and ranching in Donley County and continued until his death. He loved to work with livestock and raised champion quarter horses. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1971; his mother in 1991; a brother, Allen Pittman in 1999; and a sister, Ina Fay Phillips in 2001.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Billy Mac Pittman and wife Ruth of Amarillo; two sisters, Jewell Wood of Green Valley, Arizona, and Christine Bain of Amarillo; two nephews, and seven nieces.
