Funeral services for Lonnie Odell “Bill” Cornell, age 79, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2005, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of the Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mr. Cornell died Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in Amarillo. He was born September 20, 1925, in Paducah, Texas, and was a former long-time resident of Clarendon. He had lived in Midland for several years before moving to Memphis approximately 25 years ago. He was a law enforcement officer most of his life before his retirement and was a member of the Texas Sheriffs Association. He was a member of the Clarendon Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 6 and was a Methodist.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Waldrop and husband Tommy of Shamrock and Dianne Brunson and husband David of Muleshoe; one brother, C.W. “Dude” Cornell of Clarendon; three sisters, Erma Franks of Tulia, Wanda Campbell of Liberal, Kansas, and Lorene Kirkland of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Colby and Crystal Waldrop of Ackerly; Jade and Zak Cottrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Derek Brunson of Lubbock; and Dustin Brunson of Lubbock; and three great grandchildren, Grayson Waldrop of Ackerly and Britton and Jace Cottrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Casket bearers were Tommy Waldrop, David Brunson, Colby Waldrop, Derek Brunson, and Bill Cornell.
