Mauvine Hood Chamales, 85, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at Lubbock.
Services were held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, in the Church of Christ in Claude with Kent Watson, Minister, officiating. Graveside services followed in Claude Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Chamales was born February 15, 1921, in Claude, the first child of Paul and Edna Hood. She graduated from Claude High School in 1938 and attended Abilene Christian College. During World War II, she was a WAC in the United States Army Air Force stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, and in Ft. Myers, Florida. She married John Michael Chamales on September 26, 1943, at Claude; and in June of 1945, she gave birth to their only child. In the fall of 1946, they moved to South Dakota, where they farmed and ranched 9 miles east of Pierre, South Dakota. In 1951, they moved west of Hugo, Oklahoma, and ranched there until 1962. In June of 1962, they moved back to Claude, abiding there until 2000, then moving to Lubbock, Texas. She was a member of the Church of Christ all her life.
Mrs. Chamales is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, John of Lubbock; one son, Michael Hood Chamales and wife Linda of Lubbock; one brother, Warren Wheeler Hood and wife Carolyn of Houston; two grandchildren, Michael Scott Chamales and wife Melissa of Lubbock, and Michelynda Chamales Crossnoe and husband Reagan of Amarillo; and three great grandchildren, Alexander Scott Chamales, Autumn Alexis Crossnoe, and Remington Cole Crossnoe.
