Donald B. Myers

Donald B. Myers, 73, died on March 9, 2007.

Private family graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007, at Llano Cemetery with Daryl Roach, pastor of More Church officiating. A public memorial and praise service was held at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at More Church. Burial was in Llano cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home.

Mr. Myers was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on January 15, 1934, to Buford and Clydie Myers. He spent most of his childhood in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School. He spent his life involved in the care and welfare of neglected and needy children. He attended Abilene Christian College, where he married Carla Willis on June 17, 1955. He earned a degree in education and taught fifth grade in Corpus Christi and later moved to Lubbock as a social worker. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas. Donald had many accomplishments in his life and lived in numerous places as a social worker. He was the Administrator for the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Amarillo from 1976 through 1981, and he also built the Miracle Farm for Children while living in Brenham, Texas. He was the Administrator for Girls Town USA in Borger for several years and ran the Amarillo State Center for nine years before retiring in 1997, when he and Carla moved to Howardwick to run the Lakeside Marina at Greenbelt Lake where he was known as “Pops” to everyone. Mr. Myers had a heart for children and touched countless lives. He sponsored a native Nigerian boy through Bible School at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, he and Carla provided foster homes for many children, and they were providing a foster home for children at the time of his death. His family remembers him as the “most loving” and “most loved” man anyone could ever know. He was a kind and compassionate witness for the Lord Jesus Christ and was an “awesome man of God”. Mr. Myers was a member of More Church in Amarillo.

Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ann.

He is survived by his wife Carla; four daughters, Darla Yowell and husband Jimmy of Colorado Springs, Co, Terri Gammage and husband Ron, Patti Connor and Carol Vansickle all of Amarillo; two sons, Jerry Myers and wife Janice of Amarillo, and John Richard Myers of Weathorford; a sister, Pat Williams and husband James of Lake Kiowa, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
