Elva Livian Dishman Davis, 92, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo with Rev. Robert Fields officiating. Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Davis was born on November 13, 1915, in Rogers, Arkansas, to Simeon Perry and Isabell Whaley Dishman. She was a graduate of Hedley High School’s class of 1933; and shortly after her graduation she married Frank Douglas “Skeeter” Davis on November 18, 1933, in Memphis, Texas. Before moving to Amarillo in 1978, Elva and her husband farmed and ranched north of Hedley until Frank’s death in 1949. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Hedley and had been the Postmaster at the Hedley Post Office until her retirement. She was an avid reader, quilter, and most of all, loved to oil paint. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Douglas “Skeeter” Davis on August 29, 1949; one son Frank Douglas Davis, Jr.; three brothers, Elmer, Earl, and Edward Dishman; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Survivors include five daughters: Barbara Chedester and husband L.D. “Red”, Sandra Penn and husband Billy, Sharon Crews and her late husband Seth all of Amarillo; Linda Stephens and husband John of Sparta, Tenn., and Thava Merrett and husband Paul of Aztec, NM; a sister-in-law, Edna Dishman of Dallas; eight grandchildren: Scott Gray, Neil Hemelstrand, Cameron Gray, Douglas Stephens, Terry Stephens, Michael Stephens, Mitchell Stephens, Steven Hemelstrand; 18 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to the Rowe Cemetery Association.
