Mabel Viola Mongole, 98, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in Spearman.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2008, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Don McDonald, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Canyon, officiating. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Miss Mongole was born May 21, 1909 in White Deer to John and Maggie Muir Mongole, early pioneers of the Texas Panhandle who farmed near White Deer but later moved to Clarendon for their daughters to attend public schools. After graduating from high school, Mabel attended West Texas College in Canyon where she graduated. She was a resident of Clarendon most of her life having taught in Clarendon and area schools before returning home to care for her Mother. Mabel, with her sister Edgar Mae moved to Palo Duro Retirement Village in Canyon in 1985 where she had many friends. She always cared for others and had a remarkable memory. She was a beautiful person whom all liked. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Canyon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sister, Edgar Mae Mongole on January 9, 2005.
Survivors include several cousins and special caregivers in Canyon and Hansford Manor in Spearman.
