Clarence William “Pick” Cox, 79, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in Childress.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008, in the First Baptist Church in Hedley with Rev. Bruce Howard, Pastor, Rev. Carl Cox, son, and John Hall, officiating. Burial followed at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Pick was born December 3, 1928, in Bovina, to Thomas Francis and Florence Lee Ashcraft Cox. He married Laqueta Joy Hoover on August 3, 1949, at Paducah. Pick worked on many ranches in Texas including The Matadors, The Triangles, JY’s, and several others. Pick also worked on the Werner Brothers in Wyoming. His life long love was going out with the wagon at the Matadors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hedley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Cox, Jr.; a son-in-law, Elgie McCleskey; and a grandson, Jamon Lee Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Laqueta Cox of Hedley; a son, Carl Cox and wife Christy of Texhoma; four daughters, Sandra Hatcher and husband Ronald of Childress, Janette Wagner and husband Jerry of Hedley, Linda Crump and husband Morris of Clarendon, Lucy Poole and husband Joe of Hedley; a sister Loys Cox of Childress; eight grandchildren, Billy Ray Cates, Joel Layton, James McCleskey, Willie McCleskey, Elwyn McCleskey, Wyman McCleskey, Jessie Cox, and Jordan Cox; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Rowe Cemetery Association or Hedley Sr. Citizens.
