Viola Shackelford Bones, 96, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in Johnson City.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2008, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. James Ivey Edwards, and Rev. Terry Lowe, officiating. Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Bones was born February 22, 1912, in Elk City, Okla. to William G. and Eva Fox Shackelford. She was a 1930 graduate of Claude High School. She married Homer Bones on September 24, 1933, in Canyon. She had been a resident of Clarendon since 1932.
She was employed as a social worker for the State Department of Welfare for 22 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the 1926 Book Club. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for almost 75 years this month where she has served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She was member of the United Methodist Women, and the Harmony Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on August 9, 1995, a brother, and four sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Price and husband Bill of Marble Falls; a son, Jerry Bones and wife Theresa of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon or Citizens Cemetery Association, PO Box 983, Clarendon, Texas 79226.
