Betty Jean Grider Hammock, 73, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, Amarillo.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009, in the First Baptist Church in Howardwick with Rev. Dave Stout, Pastor, officiating. Burial was held at Silverton Cemetery in Silverton. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Hammock was born February 14, 1936, in Altus, Oklahoma to Roy and Maudie Bell Beavers Grider. She married Robert Royce Hammock on December 22, 1952 at Decatur, TX. She graduated from Rosedale High School in Belview, NM and the Amarillo School of Nursing. She was an LVN at the Hereford Regional Medical Center for 31 years before her retirement. She was a resident of Altus, OK, before moving to Hereford in 1949 where she lived until moving to Howardwick in 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howardwick.
She was preceded by her parents; a son, David Wayne Hammock in 1976 and a brother, Roy Grider.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hammock of Howardwick; one daughter, Stacie and Glenn Ruga of Spearman; two sons, Bobby and Kathy Hammock of Clovis, NM, Tim Hammock and Charlotte Deere of Brenham; one brother, Sam Grider of Howardwick; three sisters, Ann Kirkland of Plattsburg, MO, Karene Tatum of Tucumcari, NM, Reba Hayes of Amarillo; five granddaughters; four grandsons, and eight great grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be to First Baptist Church in Howardwick or a favorite charity.
