Boyd Leo Baxter, 73, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in Amarillo.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009, in the First Assembly of God in Clarendon with Rev. Matthew Stidham, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Boyd Baxter was born in Lefors, on October 13, 1935, to Henry and Sarah Ona Baxter. He graduated from Hooker High School in Oklahoma in 1954. He married Mildred Johnson on November 26, 1954, in Guymon, Okla. Together they owned and operated a moving business in Guymon for 18 years before moving to Oklahoma City in 1980 to be an over the road truck driver. They retired and moved to Lelia Lake in 1994 where they have made their home ever since. Boyd was a very active member of the First Assembly of God in Clarendon where he served in many capacities. He played an active role in building the new sanctuary and the new fellowship hall at the church and remodeling the parsonage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of the home; a daughter Brenda Hornberger and husband Bob of Howardwick; two sons, Monte Baxter of Oklahoma City and Brad Baxter of Amarillo; two brothers, Floyd Baxter of Pampa and George Baxter of Borger; six grandkids, Jeff January, Alicia Hoffman, Brittany Harris, Mandi Baxter, JD Baxter, and Marc Baxter; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be to First Assembly of God, PO Drawer F, Clarendon, Texas 79226.
