Thomas William “Tom” Stephens, 75, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Clarendon.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Lance Wood, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery, 100 South Joliet, in Plainview with Rev. Joe Weldon, officiating. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Tom was born June 22, 1933, in Shamrock to Aubrey and Lois Stephens. He grew up in Amarillo and was a 1952 graduate of Amarillo High School. He later on received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He married Helen Grace Christian in 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He was a US Army veteran. He moved his family to Plainview where he served as Lieutenant on the Plainview Police Department, Municipal Judge and retired as a juvenile probation officer in Plainview. He loved spending time volunteering with the Plainview and Clarendon Bands. In 1993, Tom met Jeanette Meller Reynolds. They were married in 1995 and resided in Clarendon until his death. Tom’s personal relationship and faith with his Savior was evident to all who knew him. He was a deacon and member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife of 36 years, Helen Stephens.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Stephens of Clarendon; two sons, Michael Stephens and wife Jacque of Quinlan and Tommy Stephens and wife Sherry of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Debora McKenzie and husband Harry of Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada, and Sheila Worsham and husband Donnie of Commerce City, Colorado; two step-daughters, Denise Climer of Tulsa, Okla., and Cheryl Roy and husband Peter of Amarillo; a step-son, Brad Reynolds of Amarillo; His Grandchildren, Joshua Pool of Charlotte, NC, Michaela Petitt and husband Mark of Crandall, Isa Lane and husband Joe of Athens, Pennsylvania, Jennifer Pool of Charlotte, NC, Ryan Worsham of Commerce City, Colo., Daryl Stephens, Gracie Stephens, and Clint Stephens all of Corpus Christi; His step-grandchildren, Emilie Climer, Marc Roy, Braden Climer, Jamie Roy, and Zachary Roy all of Amarillo, Aaron McKenzie, Travis McKenzie, Jordan McKenzie and Tayah Woods, all of Canada; his great grandchildren, Sean Lane, Cody Petitt and Logan Petitt; a brother, Ed Stephens and wife Wanda of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Ann Price and husband Randy of Kennewick, WA, and Patricia Mason and husband Scott of Bartlesville, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be at 925 West 6th.
The family requests memorials be to the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
