Bennie “Pete” Wortham, 79, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Amarillo.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in the Groom Church of Christ with Dale Meadows and Sam Line, officiating. Burial followed at the Alanreed Cemetery in Alanreed. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Pete was born June 13, 1929, in Lelia Lake to Lee Vernon and Willie Lee Morris Wortham. He married Bertha Fay Painter on July 26, 1952, in Hall County. He had been a farm and ranch hand and was head
of housekeeping department at Groom Memorial Hospital in Groom from 1968 to 1973. He was a member of the Groom Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Fay of Groom; two sons, Buster Lee Wortham and wife Karen of Clarendon and J.B. Wortham and wife Elana of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Jeanne Miller and husband Shanon of White Deer, Tyrell Lee Wortham and wife Ashlee and Timothy Blake Wortham all of Clarendon, Steven Bennie Wortham, Jordan Ria Wortham, Zachary Don Noriega, and Cheyann Ellen Wortham all of Amarillo; his great grandchildren, Haskell Lee Nation of Wellington, Jacob Lane Miller and Felicia Miller both of White Deer, Gaven Tate and Coulter Lee Wortham both of Clarendon; two brothers, Charles Ray Wortham of Cressey, California and Vernon Lee Wortham of Stockton, California.
The family requests memorials be to Groom Church of Christ or the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center.
