Geraldine Edith “Gerry” Skinner

Geraldine Edith “Gerry” Skinner, 76, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, in Amarillo.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010, in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Amarillo with Rev. Roger Smith, Pastor, officiating. Interment followed at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Gerry was born April 10, 1933 in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Odell Allen and Geneva Hipp Hawks. She married Troy Dean Skinner on September 28, 1956, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. She had been a resident of Amarillo and Clarendon most of her life. She loved to work with plants, gardening, and bird watching. She also loved to watch TV and shop. While living in Clarendon, she volunteered at the Nursing Home. She and Troy started Texas Saddlery in 1966 where she was the head bookkeeper until their retirement. She loved her children, grandchildren, and her pets. She was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Troy on February 19, 2008; and a son, Scott Skinner in 1972.

Survivors include two sons, Walt Skinner and wife Kathy of Amarillo and Sam Skinner and wife Jean of Valley View; a daughter, Dr. Rebecca “Becky” Monroe and husband Dee of Kingwood; two sisters, Jeanne James of Odessa and Norma Schoelkopf and husband Al of Centerburg, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorial donations be sent to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Dept.
