Ella Oretha Potts, 78, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in Childress.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, in the First United Methodist Church in Hedley with Rev. Ervin Emmert & Rev. Anthony Knowles officiating. Burial followed at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Ella Oretha Potts was born March 5, 1933, in Amarillo to Sam and Flora Sanders. She married James Potts on May 29, 1954, in Hedley. Oretha attended Business College at Southwestern University in Oklahoma. She began her career at Security State Bank in Hedley.
After a time, she was employed by Deyhle Veterinary Clinic in Clarendon. The majority of her years of employment were spent with General Telephone, where she retired in 1992. Along with her husband, James and son, James Edward, she worked the remainder of her years on a successful farm and ranch operation. She had been a lifetime member of Hedley where she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hedley. Oretha was a remarkable woman who will always be remembered by her family and friends for her intelligence, faith, and strength of character.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Perry Joe Potts; and her husband, James Potts.
She is survived by her son, James Edward Potts and wife Timber Lee, of Hedley; grandson, James Lee Potts, of Temple; eight sisters, Lilian Fowler, Joyce Woodard, Helen Lindsey, Jean Rice and husband Pete, Betty McGuire, Tobytha Wiggins and husband Billy, Sammy Housden and husband Kenneth, and Delores Simpson and husband Terry; brother, Tracy Sanders and wife Sharon; and numerous other family members and friends.
