Step up for kids April 4, 2012 by Morgan Wheatly Leave a Comment “He has gone to be an angel secure in our Father’s care, and his dear little feet now patter along the beautiful streets up there.” Those words grace the bottom of a boot belonging to four-year-old Chance Mark Jones, who died last January as the result of a beating he took from his father. Shown here is Cindy Shelton hanging Chance’s boot as one of 231 shoes that are now suspended above the steps of Clarendon City Hall as part of the Donley County Child Welfare Board’s awareness efforts during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Each shoe represents a child in Texas who died from abuse in 2011. Jones’ father, Robert Babcock, remains in the Donley County Jail awaiting trial. Enterprise Photo / Roger Estlack
