Washington, D.C.— Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) made the following comments after the Supreme Court announced its decision on the health care law:
“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is disturbing because it basically means that the Federal Government can require us to do anything it pleases and impose a tax on us if we fail to comply.
If that were true, there would be few limits on federal power, and the principle of limited powers is one of the basic tenets of our Constitution.
Now everyone who is concerned about a government with unlimited power to control our health care must join together to repeal this law through the political process and replace it with commonsense reforms that keep patients and doctors in charge of their care. Many of the provisions of the new law will take effect by 2014, so we have limited time.
In addition, it is important to emphasize that there is a better way. We have real problems in our health care system, and there are more limited, commonsense proposals to help solve those problems. Further details are on my website.”

I certainly do want Obamacare repealed! As far as replacing it, at this point I don’t trust anyone and I mean anyone in government to ‘fix’ it. Go away and stop ‘helping’ us. Get the government out of the business of telling employers what they must provide and let them and their employees bargain for those things. Stop telling doctors what price they must provide their services for under Medicaid and Medicare. Allow the free market to work, so that a person who is private pay can expect to be told what a particular procedure costs, instead of having one price for insured, one price for uninsured, one price for medicaid and one price for medicare. A procedure should have a value and that value should be the same for every consumer.
Today doctor’s offices have more office help than medical staff. Why, because of the regulations and complicated insurance, medicaid and medicare compliance requirements. That is why a $15 office visit now costs $125.00 or more. I raised my kids without insurance coverage and never had to worry that I would be able to afford to pay for their care. Today that is impossible.
I don’t claim to have all the answers but I do know enough to know that when someone from the government says they are there to help me, to run in the opposite direction as fast as humanly possible.
