Joanne (Jo) Lotz Bryan

Joanne (Jo) Lotz Bryan, age 86, formerly of Canyon, TX, current resident of Dallas, TX, passed away on July 22, 2012. She was born on July 11, 1926 in Roanoke, VA, the daughter of James Milton Lotz and Ethel Carolotta Eberely Lotz.

Jo graduated from Shaker Heights High in Shaker Heights, OH, in 1944. From 1944 to 1948 she attended and graduated from The University of Colorado at Boulder where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art. She met and later married John Manly Bryan, MD (Manly) from Clarendon, TX, on December 27, 1950, in Metropolis, IL.

Jo joined Manly in Galveston, TX, where he finished medical school and then spent time in Denver, CO, Silver Spring, MD and eventually settled in Canyon, TX in 1957.

During their time in Canyon, Jo and Manly raised their two sons, Jay and Denny. Jo was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the University Study Club and the Women’s Bridge Club. She was an active member of the Potter-Randall County Medical Society Auxiliary and worked many hours with the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum as a volunteer historian in the museum archive. She served for many years on the Chi-Omega Society Alumni Board.

In 1988, she and Manly relocated to the Dallas area where they met and established loving relations with many more individuals and couples. They were married for 61 years. Manly preceded her in death on April 27, 2012.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Bryan (Susan) of Pentwater, MI and Denny Bryan (Leanne) of Graham, TX; her six grandchildren, Bradley and Ashley Bryan, Abbott and Colby Oates, Aaron and Joanna Richison; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jocelyn Richison, Calvin Robrahn, and Hunter; her sister-in-law, Betty Moore (Billy); her nephew, Craig Bryan (Vicki); and her niece, Lynn Rosa (Duane) of Amarillo, TX.

Jo and Manly loved to travel and cooked extensively with an eye for unique culinary ports of call. They counted themselves fortunate to have formed lifelong friendships with wonderful people wherever they lived or traveled.

Memorial services for Jo Bryan will be Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 2:00 pm at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75123.
