The Clarendon Broncos made short work of the White Deer Bucks at home Tuesday night and defeated them 67-41.
The Broncos played aggressively in the first half of play and led by seven after two quarters. They stayed strong in the second half and played consistently to hold their lead while controlling the game.
Cole Ward led the Broncos with 26 points, which included two three-pointers and Adam Topper was able to ace four for four free throws in the final period of play to put a lid on the win. The Broncos shot 69 percent from the bonus line.
Scoring: Ward 26, Topper 14, Cody Wood 9, Charles Mason 9, Trajen Johnson 5, and Chance McAnear 4.
On Friday, the Broncos traveled to Panhandle and were handed their first District loss by the Panthers at 34-40.
The Broncos jumped out to the early lead and seemed to have Panhandle where they wanted them. But the Panthers came out in the second half and jumped into the lead. The Broncos struggled to get baskets and put points on the board, while the Panthers took over making good use of their home court advantage.
“We played hard,” head coach Brandt Lockhart said. “I thought we had chances, but we didn’t convert down the stretch. But I was pleased with our effort.”
Scoring: Johnson 9, Topper 7, Wood 5, Mason 5, Ward 5, and McAnear 2.
The Broncos will take on the Mustangs in Claude on Friday, January 25, and play Vega at home on Tuesday, January 29, at 8:00 p.m.
