Clarendon’s sales tax receipts were up sharply for the third month in a row, bolstered by economic activity of pipeline workers making their temporary homes in Donley County.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs distributed sales tax allocations last Wednesday, June 12, and Clarendon posted revenue of $35,562.59 for the month of May compared to $25,085.09 for the same month in 2012, an increase of 41.76 percent.
The city is now ahead 24.02 percent for the calendar year-to-date for sales tax revenue with collections totaling $194,329.54, up from $156,680.37 for the same time last year.
Hedley also continues to see an upward swing in tax revenue with a monthly allocation of $399.72, up 33.99 percent from $298.31 last May. That city is now 35 percent ahead for the year at $3,566.60.
Howardwick’s monthly sales tax revenue was up 22.26 percent for the month at $1,778.15, but that city still lags just slightly for the year compared to 2012, down 0.33 percent at $7,818.75.
Statewide, Combs said that state sales tax revenue in May was $2.26 billion, up 7.9 percent compared to May 2012.
“Growth in state sales tax revenue was led by collections from the information services and construction sectors,” Combs said. “Restaurants also showed notable growth, while oil and natural gas-related activity remains a major source of strength.”
The sales tax figures represent monthly sales made in April.
