The Clarendon Veterinary Hospital would like to welcome Dr. Matt Halsey and family to Donley County, and they invite the public to welcome them for hamburgers at the Clinic on Thursday, September 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Dr. Halsey was born and raised in Anthony, a rural community in South Central Kansas.
He started working on a registered Angus and Quarterhorse operation at 13 years old. After high school, he served in the US Navy onboard the USS Georgia, a nuclear ballistic missile submarine.
Following his military service in 2003, he enrolled in college and began working on ranches in Kansas.
Dr. Halsey graduated in 2007 with a degree in Biology from Newman University in Wichita, Kan.
Dr. Halsey graduated from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011.
Following veterinary school he completed a one year internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, Okla. During the internship, he developed a special interest in equine lameness and surgery.
Following the internship, he was an associate at Buffalo Veterinary in Buffalo, Okla., where he gained further experience in equine medicine, as well as, in all aspects of beef cattle operations such as cow-calf producers, stocker operations, and feedlot operations. Dr. Halsey also gained significant experience in general small animal practices.
Dr. Halsey’s special interests in veterinary medicine include equine lameness diagnostic and treatment, beef cattle herd health, and general practices.
Dr. Halsey was married in 2002 to his childhood sweetheart and best friend Stephanie. They have two girls Avery 7, Kennedy 3, and a little boy, Cotton, who is 11 months old.
When he is not working, he enjoys riding horses with the children, dayworking during branding season, collecting bits and spurs, and duck hunting with his Labrador Retriever.
