Rex McKay, Jr., 78, died Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Pampa.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ in Amarillo, and Keith Feerer, minister of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. McKay was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Pampa to William Rex and Odessa McKay. He was a lifelong resident of Pampa and Gray County and was a 1954 graduate of Pampa High School. Rex received his BBA degree from Texas Tech in 1958. He married Koell Gillpatrick on June 6, 1957, in Pampa. Rex was a longtime Gray County farmer, rancher, and banker. He was on the board of directors of Citizens Bank and Trust for several years and served as bank president for three years. He was a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, Pampa Masonic Lodge #966, and Khiva Shrine Temple of Amarillo. Rex served on the board at Pampa Senior Citizens Center for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Koell McKay, of the home; two sons, Rex McKay, III and wife Robin of Pampa and Mark McKay and wife RayAnn of Dalhart; five grandchildren, Will McKay, Mary McKay Beadles and husband Taylor, and Kelsey McKay, all of Lubbock, Mason McKay of Pampa, and Chloe McKay of Dalhart; a brother-in-law, Max Gillpatrick of Pampa; and a sister-in-law, Gail Moore, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rex was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
