Stock show nets $55k for youth

Koyt Tucek and Kati Adams exhibited the top animals in the Beef Division during the annual Donley County Junior Livestock Show last Saturday, January 11, at the Donley County Activity Center.

Tucek showed the Grand Champion Steer, and Adams had the Grand Champion Heifer.

Other top winners were Chardy Craft and her Grand Champion Goat; Malerie Simpson with the Grand Champion Lamb; Kati Adams and his Grand Champion Gilt; and Koyt Tucek with the Grand Champion Barrow.

Reserve Champion honors when to Kolt Stevenson, goats; Madison Smith, lambs; Kati Adams, steers; Jodee Pigg, heifers; Kallie Lindsey, gilts; and Tristen Harper, barrows.

A total of 63 kids from the Donley County 4-H Club and local FFA chapters exhibited 104 animals during the show. Last year 73 young people showed 102 animals.

The livestock auction following the show generated an estimated $55,000, and that number is likely to increase as donations continue to be received. Last year’s sale totaled about $61,000 when everything was collected.

Showmanship awards this year went to Clint Franks – Senior Goat, Izzy Craft – Junior Goat, Alysse Simpson – Senior Lamb, Madison Smith – Junior Lamb, Kati Adams – Senior Swine, Dalton Benson – Junior Swine, Kati Adams – Senior Beef, and Hannah Hommel – Junior Beef. The Pee Wee Showmanship winner was Grant Haynes.
