Temple “Slim” Carter, 82, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, in Clarendon.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, in the Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon with Rev. Larry Capranica, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Slim was born May 18, 1931, in Stephenville, Texas to Charlie Albert and Nancy Elizabeth Pendergrass Carter. He served his country in the US Marines Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for many years. He married Dianna Day on February 23, 2008, in Logan, NM. He was the State Chaplain for the American Legion based out of the Logan, NM Post #77. Slim was also a member of the VFW Post #7782 in Clarendon. He loved to play pool, competing in several tournaments, including a major tournament in Las Vegas. He loved to hunt, fish, and ride four wheelers. Slim also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Slim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Logan, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by 10 brothers and sisters; and by a niece-in-law, Shirley Price.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna Carter of Clarendon; 2 sons, Raymond Carter and wife Barbara of Jesup, GA, Ronald Carter and wife Nadine of Conchas Dam, NM; a step son, Ronald Chisum of Howardwick; a step daughter Christy Chisum-Barham and wife Tim Greenville, TN; 2 nieces, Wanda Wilson and husband Richard of Amarillo, Cheryl Myers and husband Lowell of Park City, Utah; 3 nephews, Travis Price and wife Helen of Granbury, Sonny Price of Arlington, Bill Jones of Stephenville; a brother-in-law, Nig Durant of Granbury; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the Donley County Senior Citizens, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, or to Community Care Center of Clarendon.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
