The Lady Broncos’ softball season came to an early end as they faced off against Ralls in Plainview last week in a Bi-District game.
Head coach Gary Jack said even though the wind was blowing 25-35 miles per hour, the Lady Broncos played a very inspired game.
“Our season is over and it ended with an exciting Bi-District game with Ralls in Plainview,” Jack said. “The end result was a 10-18 loss in extra innings.”
The game began fast, according to Jack, with Ralls taking a 3-1 lead after the first inning. After a couple of mistakes by the Lady Broncos, Ralls increased that lead to seven in the second inning. But the Clarendon squad was not finished and came roaring back.
“Our girls battled back each inning, highlighted by Skyler White’s home run in the third inning,” Jack said. “We were able to tie it up in the fifth at seven all.”
Ralls came in the sixth and scored two runs to go up by two, but once again the Lady Broncos got back in the game by scoring two of their own. Ralls scored another in the seventh and after the Lady Broncos scored one to tie yet again, they had a chance to get the win, but left runners on first and third to go into extra innings.
“I used four different pitchers in the eighth inning, but we had trouble throwing strikes,” Jack said. “Ralls was able to score eight runs in that inning to take an 18-10 lead. We loaded the bases in our at bat with no outs but failed to score. The final score down not show how good a game it was. I was very proud of our girls battling back after falling behind. They could have rolled over, but fought back instead. I’m very proud of that.” The Lady Broncos finished the season at 15-5 overall and had a 9-3-district record and finished second in their district.
“It was a very fun and exciting season,” Jack said. “We continued to improve over the course of the season.”
