The Clarendon Broncos were a little rough around the edges in their 7-45 loss on the road to Tulia Friday night. Despite the loss, head coach Gary Jack felt the Broncos did some things right and will work hard to get back on track.
“We didn’t help our cause,” Jack said. “We had some mistakes early that allowed them to score 21 points in the first quarter. They got on us early.”
Jack noted that the Broncos’ performance was not all bad and there were bright spots. “We saw good things from the guys,” Jack said. “We moved the ball decent and Charles Mason had a great game. He ran for 121 yards on 17 carries and scored one touchdown. He also had 14 tackles on defense.”
Jack knows the Broncos need to work on consistency on offense and execution is key.
“We need to get better and we need to correct things,” Jack said. “We had our chances in the game with Tulia, and we could have made things better for us. They are good and fast, but our mistakes cost us. We are a young team, but we are going to have to grow up fast and keep getting better.”
Jack noted that Keandre Cortez had a good game running the ball and Bryce Hatley and Zack Laroe did a good job at quarterback. Riley Shadle finished with seven tackles; Clay Koetting and Hatley each had six.
The Broncos will take on Springlake-Earth in their Homecoming game this Friday night in Bronco Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Bronco JV will travel to Perryton on Thursday, September 4, to take on their freshmen at 5:00 p.m.
