The Clarendon Broncos have had a tough pre-district season. They have played several top ten state-ranked teams and have battled every Friday night with pride wearing the maroon and white.
Last Friday night, the Broncos ended their pre-district season with a 20-63 loss against Booker.
“I’m glad our non-district schedule is over,” head coach Gary Jack said. “Those five teams were a combined 20-5 for the year and most of them were undefeated when we played them. Booker was a tough game, and they are a really good team. They are ranked sixth in the state right now.”
Jack said the Broncos had a hard time stopping the Kiowas’ big plays. But the Broncos were able to put points on the board behind the leadership of their quarterback, Bryce Hatley.
“Bryce played well for us,” Jack said. “He was 17/31 for 240 yards and one touchdown. Cedrick McCampbell had one of the best games of his career with eight catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.”
Jack went on to say that Clint Franks came in as a back and sparked the team and finding the end zone for a touchdown.
“We saw a lot of good things,” Jack said. “Montana Hysinger did a good job on defense and so did Caleb Cobb, Clay Koetting, and Hatley. I was proud of them and the young kids from the JV played well.”
The Broncos will have an open week this week, so it will give them time to heal.
“We hope to have some guys back when we open district against Lockney,” Jack said. “It is time for a break. This came at a good time. We need to get healthy, and we plan to compete in district. Our goal is to get into the playoffs. I’m optimistic about district. We need to get focused, polish up, and get ready for Lockney.”
The Clarendon Broncos will begin their district season on Friday, October 10, at home against the Lockney Longhorns beginning at 7:00 p.m.
