Koyt Tucek and Hannah Hommel exhibited the top animals in the Beef Division during the annual Donley County Junior Livestock Show last Saturday, January 10, at the Donley County Activity Center.
Tucek showed the Grand Champion Steer, and Hommel had the Grand Champion Heifer.
Other top winners were Jaxan McAnear and his Grand Champion Goat; Madison Smith with the Grand Champion Lamb; Kati Adams and his Grand Champion Gilt; and Adams again with the Grand Champion Barrow.
Reserve Champion honors when to Brandalyn Ellis, goats; Alysse Simpson, lambs; Kati Adams, steers; Zack Caison, heifers; Jaxon McAnear, gilts; and Koyt Tucek, barrows.
A total of 77 kids from the Donley County 4-H Club and local FFA chapters exhibited 110 animals during the show. Last year 63 young people showed 104 animals.
The livestock auction following the show generated an estimated $42,600, and that number will increase as donations continue to be received. Last year’s sale totaled about $74,000 when everything was collected.
Showmanship awards this year went to Brandalyn Ellis – Senior Goat, Levi Gates – Junior Goat, Alysse Simpson – Senior Lamb, Madison Smith – Junior Lamb, Kati Adams – Senior Swine, Harrison Howard – Junior Swine, Hannah Hommel – Senior Beef, and Koyt Tucek – Junior Beef. The Pee Wee Showmanship winner was Hudson Howard and Presley Smith.
