Roy Gratin “Cowboy” Johnson, 83, of Clarendon, passed away September 3, 2015, in Ft. Worth after a brief illness.
A private family burial will be held at the Citizens Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19.
Visitation afterwards will be held at the Senior Citizen’s Center, 115 East 4th Street.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Oscar Johnson, sister Jewel, brother, Kenneth.
Roy is survived by the love of his life of 61 years, wife, Jeanie Johnson of Clarendon; daughter, Jaci and husband, Bill Garner of Dodd City; sons, Monte Johnson of Burleson and Gene Johnson of Howardwick.
Roy was also known as “Big Boy” and is lovingly remembered by his 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. “Cowboy” spent most of his years as a ranch hand on the J.A. Ranch. He was an accomplished team roper and loved the rodeos and roping with all his team roping partners. He moved to Dimmitt in 1963 to pursue farming, raising cattle, and owning a feedlot. After retiring, he moved back to Clarendon in 1999. He was a Christian man that was dedicated to God, family, and his friends. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
