Hedley will be the place to be this weekend with the 64th annual Cotton Festival taking place Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10.
The Hedley Lioness Club will get things going Friday with a Chili & Stew Supper at 5 p.m. The club will also be selling chances on a quilt. After the supper, everyone is encouraged to go to Memorial Field and support the Owls as they take on Ft. Elliott in some exciting six-man football.
Saturday begins with Breakfast Burritos from 7 to 9 a.m. followed by a Motorcycle Show from 10 a.m. to noon sponsored by Tripp’s Harley-Davidson of Amarillo.
Street music all day will be provided by Pat Chesser and others; and activities downtown will include Knocker Balls from Abilene, a Greased Pig Contest, Human “Happy Hippo” Game, and a Bow & Arrow game. Other vendors and games will also be happening during the day.
The Lioness Club will be open for a quilt show Saturday, and the Lions Club will host a catered BBQ dinner at noon.
The Hedley Senior Citizens will sell hamburgers from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Senior Citizens will also hold raffles for two guns – a .44 Henry Golden Boy and a .38 Special Pink Lady. Both guns come with $50 for ammunition. The Hedley Volunteer Fire Department will also be raffling a BBQ grill.
Hedley’s One Act Play team will host Bingo all day. After 4:00 p.m. the HHS Junior Class will have a concession stand in the Senior Citizens building.
The Hedley Senior Class will hold a Bake Sale, and the Rowe Cemetery Fund is also planning a Cake Walk & Bake Sale.
The Little Prince and Princess contest will be another attraction during the day. The Kiddie Parade will begin on Main Street at 1:00 p.m., the big parade will begin at 2 p.m. with line-up an hour before at the school. The Adamson-Lane American Legion Post #287 will lead the parade with as the Color Guard.
All former students and teachers of Hedley School are invited and encouraged to attend the Hedley Ex-Students Reunion, which begins at 3 p.m. at the School with a catered Reunion BBQ Dinner at 5 p.m.
The names of all raffle winners from this year’s festival will be announced at the Lions Hall at 6:00 p.m.
Steve, Danny and Billy Mullins with Original Band will close out the Cotton Festival with live music and dancing at the Red Barn beginning at 9 p.m.
