Local and area shoppers will have to wait a few months for the grand opening of the Whistle-Stop Trades Days.
The new business was expected to open this fall in the former Chamberlain Motor Company building on east US 287 in Clarendon, but business owner Kimberly Britten now says that won’t happen until next spring.
“We want people to have the best experience possible,” Britten told the Enterprise.
She said the timing just was not right for an opening in November and that waiting until the spring will be better for everyone involved. She said much prayer and thought went into the decision to wait.
“This will give us the time to make sure our vendors and customers have the absolute best experience of any trades days around,” Britten said. “This was a difficult business decision, but one we feel will be vital to our vendors, our customers, and our community.”
Britten says she appreciates the support shown for the Whistle-Stop so far.
The Whistle-Stop has hosted its Farmers Market on Wednesdays for the last several weeks with a good response from local and area producers and consumers. Britten said the farmers market season closed last week.
Meanwhile, plans remain the same for the Whistle-Stop when it opens next spring. Britten intends to have an indoor and outdoor marketplace that will be open the weekend before the second Monday of each month.
Plans also call for a shaded beer garden with live music to be located at the back of the property.
Vendors or local producers interested in having space at the Whistle-Stop may call 806-206-6815 or 806-206-6924 for more information.
