Charles Carl Carter

Charles Carl Carter, age 89 of Mobeetie, died Monday, December 7, 2015, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Bright Newhouse officiating. Inurnment will follow in Citizens Cemetery with arrangements by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mr. Carter was born November 11, 1926, in Laketon to Ransom and Eunice Carter. He graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1945 and went immediately into the Army. When Japan surrendered at the end of WWII, he spent the remainder of his service as part of the occupation troops. In 1948, Carl married Peggy Ware and they were married 67 years until his death. He was a Wheeler County Deputy under Bus Dorman, but eventually became a Game Warden for the State of Texas. He worked his first two years as Game Warden in Wheeler County and was transferred to Donley County where he worked until his retirement.

Carl was an avid hunter, a marksman, an artist, a storyteller, and played the harmonica. He was a history buff and enjoyed reading about myriads of subjects.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Carter; and a son, Wayne Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Carter of the home; a daughter, Lynna Crockett and husband Bill of Shamrock; a son, Steve Carter and wife Tammy of Kellerville; two sisters, Bernice Hefley of Elk City, Okla., and Mary Alexander and husband Carl of Ellicott, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
