Clarendon High School announced this week that its top students for the Class of 2016 are Kendra Davis and Caleb Cobb.
Both students will be recognized during CHS commencement on Friday, May 27.
Kendra Davis is this year’s Valedictorian is with a GPA of 3.901 and a weighted GPA of 5.680. Kendra is the daughter of Kyle and Kasi Davis and Paula Catar.
Kendra has been a member of the Student Council for four years. She served as president her junior year and vice president her senior year. Kendra has been class vice president her freshman, sophomore, and senior years.
Kendra has also been involved in CHS extracurricular events. She has been a member of FCCLA, a member of the Bronco band, and she played basketball her freshman and sophomore years. Kendra also ran cross country and played softball here freshman and sophomore years. She became a basketball manager and football trainer during her junior and senior years. Kendra also played on the Bronco tennis team during her junior and senior years.
Kendra also participated in UIL academics all four years and qualified for regional her junior and senior years. She has been a member of the CHS chapter of the National Honor Society the last two years.
Kendra was named the Lions Club sweetheart this year and was also named the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce Young Woman of the Year.
Kendra will graduate with 33 hours of dual credit hours from Clarendon College, and she plans on attend Texas A&M at College Station where she plans to major in Forensic Investigative Science with a minor in Sociology.
This year’s Salutatorian is Caleb Cobb with a GPA of 3.725 and a weighted GPA of 5.519. Caleb is the son of Casey and Alice Cobb.
Caleb was an academic regional qualifier in UIL Social Studies all four years, a regional qualifier in current events his freshman and sophomore years, and a state qualifier in current events his junior and senior years. He was also nominated for Academic Excellence and Leadership “People to People” ambassador program his freshman and sophomore years. He was also nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum Career in National Security his sophomore year.
Caleb was also football academic all-district his freshman and sophomore years. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Caleb will graduate with 21 college hours through his dual credit classes with Clarendon College while at CHS.
Caleb has also been very involved with the Bronco athletic program while attending CHS. He lettered in varsity football and baseball all four years. He was a regional qualifier in cross-country his freshman year as well as honorable mention all-district in baseball. His sophomore year he was honorable mention all-district football for both offense and defense. He was also named first team all-district baseball and named Clarendon High School player of the year. He was a district champion and regional qualifier in the 800 meter run. During his junior year, he was named to the Amarillo Globe-News Baseball Super Team Honorable Mentions and All State Baseball Honorable Mention. He was district champion and regional qualifier in the 800 meter run. He was a member of the district champion baseball team this year and also participated in football where he served as captain.
Caleb spent much of his time serving others. He was class president all four years. He also served Christ’s Kids by delivering Thanksgiving dinners. He also volunteered his time at the Faith City Mission in Amarillo and Young Athletes for Christ Texas Division. He has also been a baseball tutor for youth groups of Clarendon and has served on the Clarendon School Health Advisory Committee. Caleb is a member of the Trinity Fellowship Church of Amarillo.
Caleb plans to major in Political Science with a Concentration in International Relations and Comparative Politics. Caleb has achieved a junior high goal of playing college football by signing a letter of intent to play for Abilene Christian University.
